"When we heal our own trauma - individually & collectively - we don't just heal our bodies. By refusing to pass on the trauma we inherited, we help heal the world." ~ Resmaa Menakem
I am a curious, open-minded, and non-pathologizing holistic humanistic-existential Gestalt psychotherapist who will meet you exactly where you are. I recognize that you are the expert of your own experience and that you already possess the ability and skills that will aid you in healing your pain and suffering. As an empathic witness, advocate, and guide, I will help you increase your self-awareness, self-acceptance, and sense of agency through mindful observation, personal exploration, and collaborative experimentation. I want to help you access your inherent wisdom and internal resources.
Essentially, I will help you re-examine your life and re-experience yourself and others, in different as well as new meaningful and healing ways.
In session with you, I deeply value presence, curiosity, humility, authenticity, spaciousness, aliveness, creativity, difference, and inclusion. My approach is mindful, intuitive, and tenderhearted.
Together, we may explore some, many, or almost all of the realms of your being, including but not limited to:
1) Realm of the Mind, a mental journey into beliefs, narratives, and fantasies
2) Realm of the Body, a physical journey into somatic experience and the embodied self
3) Realm of the Heart, an emotional journey into compassion and relationship
4) Realm of the Spirit, a spiritual journey into connection and expansion
I am influenced and impassioned by intersectional feminist, queer, multicultural, liberation psychology, transformative justice, and social justice theory and principles. Being aware of, bringing curiosity to, owning, and questioning my prejudices, I will be better able to hold a queer gaze and avoid projecting my own shadow material onto you. By continuing to be in relationship with my own personal worldview, intersectionality, and positionally, I endeavor to keep cultivating a queer space where differences are acknowledged, affirmed, and amplified.
I am deeply committed to, will continue to recommit myself to, and am actively engaged in my own anti-racist work through personal reflection around my multi-layered identities, biases, and privileges. I rise with my LGBTQQIP2SAA black, brown, and indigenous siblings of color for freedom, liberation, and justice!
I am also intrigued and inspired by person-centered (Rogerian) psychotherapy, phenomenology, the dialogic, transpersonal psychology, psychosynthesis, analytical (Jungian) psychology, object relations, attachment theory, acceptance & commitment therapy (ACT), choice theory, constructivist theory, relational psychotherapy, harm reduction, restorative justice, decolonizing psychotherapy, Health At Every Size (ASDAH), Center for Body Trust, Sensorimotor psychotherapy, and Hakomi Mindful Somatic psychotherapy.
I am open to all different kinds of experiences and am especially drawn to working with people who identify as queer, alternative, different, weird, rebellious, Third Culture Kids, only children, children of addicts, and/or children of absent parents as well as those experiencing anxiety, shyness & high sensitivity, panic, agoraphobia, depression, sexual struggles, codependency/confluence, acculturation issues, insecure attachment, body shame, and/or biracial/mixed race identity confusion.
I am body-positive, fat-positive, sex-positive, and queer, kink, & poly affirming.
Just as no two individuals are exactly the same, there is no one therapeutic approach that is going to fit everyone. With that said, as an integral holistic psychotherapist, I allow my varied life experiences, as well as all of the aforementioned therapies, to inform my work. As a result, I offer each of my clients a personalized approach that is specifically tailored to fit their unique wants and needs.
If, at any time, you determine that I am not the right psychotherapist for you, I can and will provide you with the appropriate referrals.
